Creating a Photography Portfolio

March 2nd, 2010

One of the major steps in becoming a professional photographer is creating your own portfolio. Here are some steps to help get you started.

Gathering Your Material:

The key to a good portfolio is having good material to put in it. To that end, seek the advice of others whose opinions you trust when you are getting your photos together for your portfolio. If you have done a lot pf professional work in the past, you can begin to organize your work into categories based on the types of work you will be pursuing. If you are going to be shoeing your book to wedding planners, for instance, they will want to see the work you have done in that realm. Same goes for family portraits, actor's head shots, etc.

No matter what type of work it is you are looking for at any given time, you should always feel free to include some of your best shots in any genre in your portfolio so that you can better show your artistic eye and photographic abilities. Don't be shy about showing them your best work, as whoever it is that views your portfolio may well remember what they saw and recommend you to a friend at some point.

Just as you should show your diversity in styles, you should demonstrate your best work in black and white as well as in color. If you have special talents in processing via PhotoShop and/or the darkroom, don't be afraid to display these skills as well.

The key is to have enough work in all your intended areas that you can keep your portfolio a flexible demonstration of your past work that you can change to meet what you perceive will be the needs and desires of your potential client.

Bio and Resume:

In the front of your portfolio, you should include some sort of resume and biographical information. If you have had some higher profile clients, here would be a good place to mention them. If you have a letterhead with a logo or personal high quality linen stationery, print them on that paper. Just a few lines about what you did for each client will suffice. You don't need to include contact information for references, but you can let your potential clients know that you can supply them with references if they wish.

For your bio, you may want to include a thumbnail head shot of yourself, and explain how you got into photography and how long you've been working as a professional, etc.

Place your resume and bio at the beginning of your portfolio, but don't take up too many pages. Two would be ideal.

Putting it Together:

Find a nice portfolio case or three ring binder to put your work in, along with some clear plastic sleeves to put your work in. The key is to use a binding system that is easily editable so you can change it to meet the needs of your clients.

Put your very best work in the genre in question at the front of your photography section and your best work regardless of genre at the end. These are the parts that your potential client is most likely to remember.

Unleash the Artist in You

October 21st, 2009

Art should be an important part of our lives, especially of our childrens lives. Art is the easiest and most productive way of expressing ourselves, understanding ourselves and the people around us, but most importantly art compels people to discover. As it does not involve memorization or repetition, it allows us to learn how to learn and solve problems more easily than any other subject. For this reason alone, art should be an important part of any childs live. Furthermore, all children have an artistic side that will eventually fade away if not developed and nurtured.

Moreover, children have a natural tendency of expressing themselves through poems, short stories or drawings and this type of creativity should be encouraged by parents. Childrens art helps them broaden their horizon and enables them to assimilate information faster. So, if your child is visibly artistic, help him develop his creativity, for example make a kids art gallery, and encourage him to embrace the art form of his choice. Furthermore, you should also help your children share his or her creativity. The tendency of being noticed is more obvious in children than in adults, because they want to be appreciated. Besides family appreciation, children seek to share their kids artwork with friends, classmates or people with common interests.

Web sites are the perfect means of helping your child share his or her work. There are sites especially created to help children develop and share their creativity, where you can find kids writing, kids art gallery and many other kids artwork. These web sites allow you to upload childrens art, whether its childrens writing, childrens drawings, kids stories, kids songs, kids poems and all types of kids art. Thus, not only will your children have a friendly audience for their artworks, but they will also be able to see other childrens art. This will help them get new ideas, learn new methods of developing their artistic skills and of course, have some fun.

These web sites where you can upload childrens art and view kids artwork are very easy to use. All one has to do is register, free of charge. Just by filling some information about yourself or your child, you can help your little one enter a world that will help him or her develop his/ her creativity, receive appreciation from other fellow artists and view childrens art, from songs to poems and even projects.

Art is probably one of the most important subjects our children should learn. To many it might not seem so important, but art can build a childs imagination, foster their problem solving and creativity skills and also help him or her develop great motor skills. Thus, if you want your child to develop beautifully, encourage him/ her to embrace any form of art and then help him receive the needed appreciation by uploading your childs artwork on web sites especially created for this purpose. These sites have kids writing, kids art gallery, kids artwork and other childrens art themes, so whatever his or her talent is, it can be seen and appreciated.

A review of the movie Couples Retreat

October 19th, 2009

From the title you dont know exactly where the movie is coming from or going to.

The initial allure of this movie is the expected setting of a good scenery island as advertised It does deliver on that front but the overall style of the movie was somewhat unexpected and movie explored intertwining friendships quite extensively as well as head on couples issues and the first front on everything was the voice, mirror and feedback from friends.

Despite the settings, this movie is very dialogue oriented and the dialogue is somewhat confrontational and snappy. The movie actually does go heavier into relationship issues than it initially presents.

It is interesting that the overall tone is that there is fairly serious like dialogue with the humor coming in as a secondary add in and this style seems to work in this movie.

The actual movements within scenes were also like this, where there were contradictory elements introduced evidenced on the physical plane.

There was an atmospheric shark attack scene that had just a bit of a reminding of the film Open Water where the tour guides were not totally privy as they should have in the moment.

Later scenes show that the couples, despite some achieved maturity arent all the way past the wild party culture which is more linked with youthful exuberance maybe gone wrong a bit and of course that is a clich as well to a degree.

The film doesnt offer lasting deep spiritual solutions as the way to go, but there are kernels of wisdom that can also be extracted from some of the situations in terms of dealing with balancing and skewed expectations.

This film does work at the level of good scenery, being entertaining, having the body beautiful with some realistic in range sporty adventure challenges, and in showing how people even with some success are still moving and still have to deal with new and varied issues as they go along despite reaching some milestones.

Stay for a scene after the credits, a good dig on the financial goings on.

Taking You Talent to the Next Level - Living the Silver Screen Life

July 21st, 2009

Good looking! Have a great voice! Can act! Well, if you have all these and love to do what you do then its time you took your passion or your hobby (defined as the thing that we want to do the most, but just can't!!) to the next level. Well you aren't straight away going to be a Hollywood star and will have to start low so how about being on TV! All this is not as difficult as it sounds if approached in a practical manner.

So don't just sit on your couch holding the remote and dreaming about being there. Let's see some great ways on how you can start working on showcasing your skills and make it big (and I mean it!) on the silver screen.

Getting noticed: - Most actors, while auditioning for various production houses land up with small roles to act in commercials or soaps as extras. These roles are not significant but enough to get you noticed. If you are an aspiring singer, try approaching companies of established artists for the job of a background vocalist. Good background vocalists are always in demand and if you are one then you can't help but get noticed. Remember that “Luck is when preparation meets opportunity”. So being around, being seen and being heard is the key.

Be There and Be Everywhere: - You must have noticed how the concept of Reality TV has picked up during the last decade. Well the best way to tell the world that you can be on TV is to audition for one. There are a variety of shows that you can choose from, such as adventure, acting, singing etc. You may find it difficult to get through, the first few times, but keep trying. If you feel like giving up, then imagine the feeling of being there just once. Enough to keep you going!?

walking Smart: - So, you are good looking. Well, don't just sit there! Do something about it like auditioning for a modeling agency! Being a model can be a tiring job but is easy, high- paying and is sure to get you on TV in no time. And better yet, if you get noticed it's only a matter of time that so good director may be casting you for a considerably long role for his TV show.

Getting on TV once in a while is not a big deal but if you want to get there and stay there, then perseverance becomes a necessity. You will need to keep on it rather than lose heart. Hard work always pays!

These tips are sure to get you on TV at least once if not make you the biggest TV star of the year.
